The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows his handiwork
Psalms 19:1

The Thomsen Observatory is located on the campus of Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas.

It was founded in 1984 through the generosity of Southwestern alums Dennis and Connie Dickerson and the efforts of Dr. Hal Wright, Academic Dean, and Dr. Roy Campbell, Professor of Physics. The observatory's name honors the memory of Dr. Eugene V. Thomsen, a modern languages professor and, at the time of his death, the Academic Dean of Southwestern Adventist College, as the institution was then named.

In 2006 the observatory was rededicated with a new 10-inch refractor housed in the existing 14-foot dome. The acquisition of this instrument was made possible with a generous bequest from Southwestern alumna Dr. Kathleen Thomsen-Hall.
